Questions to Ask Your Orthodontist Before Getting Invisalign
Here are a few things to ask as you consider beginning Invisalign treatment.
Am I a Candidate for Invisalign?
Since 1998, Invisalign has helped over ten million people worldwide. However, not everyone is a candidate for clear aligners. In some cases, a dental issue may need to be addressed before orthodontic treatment. In others, an orthodontist may determine that braces will get better results more efficiently.
To be sure, it’s best to contact an experienced Invisalign provider for a smile assessment. Dr. Jenny Yoo is a VIP Diamond Plus Provider, among the top Invisalign providers anywhere in the world. So, she’s the ideal person to contact, and your smile assessment is free.

Why Choose Aligners?
Many times, patients may have the choice of either Invisalign or braces. Today, both treatments are advanced, effective, discreet, and more comfortable. Best of all, orthodontic treatment transforms your smile for life and improves oral health significantly.
Given a choice, you’ll want to ask what the advantages are of Invisalign versus braces. Right away, you can see aligners are discreet. Most of the time, people won’t even notice you are wearing them. However, braces are more discreet than ever, with options of clear braces.
For many, the best part of Invisalign is the aligners come out for meals and to brush your teeth. Thus, you will be able to eat all your favorite foods without restricting your diet as much as with braces. Also, you won’t have to brush and floss around wires and brackets.
Without any wires or brackets, Invisalign generally requires fewer appointments for adjustments or emergency visits. Still, Dr. Yoo will need to see you occasionally to watch how you are progressing. If there are any concerns, she’ll address them, so your results will be fantastic.

What are the Drawbacks?
Overall, Invisalign is a great alternative to braces for those who are candidates. Most people are delighted with the outcome of treatment, proudly showing off their dream smiles.
One potential drawback: you have to be disciplined to wear the aligners at all times (except eating, drinking, or brushing). It’s not a drawback for too many people, but some may be tempted to take the aligners out. Then, you may delay treatment and require more time or aligners.
Similarly, when aligners come out, you must always keep track of them in their case. Otherwise, it’s easy to misplace them. Daily, you’ll need to clean the aligners gently (An easy process). On occasion, you may need to file a sharp edge.
When wearing braces, they remain affixed to each tooth, so treatment stays on track. This way, you absolutely won’t lose your braces, but on the other hand, it’s trickier to clean around them.
With Invisalign Teen, tiny indicators reveal how long they have been worn. If the indicator shows the aligner needs more time, treatment can take longer than expected.

How Long Will it Take?
This question is a biggie and difficult to answer until your orthodontist sees your smile. Of course, everyone wants to get their dream smile fast. With Invisalign, it generally takes an average of 12 to 18 months. However, everyone is different. So, some minor adjustments may be considerably faster, and others may take longer.
For a minor adjustment, you may wear around 12 sets of aligners. However, a more advanced correction can take as many as 48. Thus, it varies widely by the individual smile. For each set, you’ll wear the aligners as much as possible for about two weeks. Then, you’ll move to the next set in the series.
For a more accurate estimate, get a free consultation. Then, Dr. Yoo will be able to give a rough estimate. By wearing your aligners and maintaining your oral health, treatment can stay on track.
