Invisalign Answers
We’re all about open communication with our patients so you’ll know the ins and outs of Invisalign treatment before you begin. However, to give you a head start we’ve compiled the answers to the questions we hear most often.
A: When treating with Invisalign, we create a series of clear, plastic, custom aligners that exert gentle, steady force on the teeth to move them into place. Dr. Yoo will plan out her patient’s treatment using a digital 3D image of their teeth. Invisalign makes the aligners based on these specifications. With each new set of aligners, the teeth will move a little closer to their final positions. When treatment is complete, the patient has a gorgeous smile to show for it.
A: You’ll need to keep your aligners in for at least 22 hours per day. You’ll only take them out to brush and floss your teeth, eat, go swimming and play sports.
A: Nope! You’ll pop your aligners out to eat and put them back in when you’re done. You can enjoy all of the foods you love.
A: There’s an adjustment period with any orthodontic treatment. It always feels a little weird to have something in your mouth. While most patients don’t notice a difference in their speech, others say they have a slight lisp. This goes away in a few days as you get used to your aligners and your speech will return to normal.
A: Whenever you wear a new set of aligners, your teeth will feel a little sensitive for a few days. The discomfort is very mild and it means Invisalign is working and your smile is taking shape.
A: Take out your aligners to chew gum and put them back in when you’re done. If you chew gum with them in your mouth, it will be a mess.
A: We don’t recommend smoking while wearing your aligners because the nicotine can stain them yellow. Who wants discolored plastic over their smile?
A: To keep your aligners clean, brush them with a clean tooth brush in cold water. Don’t use toothpaste as it can scratch your aligners and collect plaque
A: Invisalign doesn’t require any adjustments so you won’t need to come in as frequently as some of our braces patients. You’ll visit us about every 8 to 10 weeks for a check-up so we can monitor your progress.
A: Yes. Regardless of the type of orthodontic treatment you undergo, you’ll be fitted for a retainer when you’re done. Your teeth will want to shift back to their old positions. The only way to maintain your results is by wearing a retainer. Eventually, you’ll only need to use it at night.
A: The length of your Invisalign treatment will depend on the severity of your case and how well you follow our instructions for wearing your aligners. Your treatment should take anywhere from 6 to 24 months to complete.
A: The only way to determine if Invisalign will be an effective option for you, is to visit us for an in-office consultation. We’ll evaluate your bite and let you know if you’re a good candidate.
A: The cost of Invisalign treatment will depend on the severity of your case, how many aligners you need and how well you follow our instructions for wearing them. Once Dr. Yoo has the chance to examine your mouth and diagnostic records, they can give you a price. They always provide a breakdown of the fees before you start treatment and there are never any hidden costs. We think everyone should be able to get the smile of their dreams, so we offer flexible, in-house financing options with low down payments to work for your budget. If you have insurance, we’ll help you determine how much coverage is available for your treatment and even file claims on your behalf.
